DISCERNING OPPORTUNITIES
By Kupoluyi Ayomikun
From when we were little we'd been asked, 'What will you like
to become when you grow up?'. In Higher Institution we ask ourselves, 'Where do
you see yourself in 5,10 years?'
Lofty goals,
dreams, aspirations, goals, everyone have them, but how many people pursue these outside school? How many achieve them, or at least few
of them?
Look around you, you'd probably see many people that are
merely surviving; dreams forgotten, no time to plan, to hope, and to dream.
So how do you ensure that your life doesn't end up in a dull
routine?
You must learn how to
RECOGNIZE YOUR OPPORTUNITIES.
According to a top Motivational speaker and Leader, Pastor Sam Adeyemi 'an opportunity is a favorable time or occasion for the attainment of a goal'. He also said that 'Recognition of Opportunities only happens when something outside matches what is already inside you i.e your dream'
So how do you recognize your opportunities?
1
Have a clear goal
or vision. It's even better when you write it down.
2
Project small
steps that will help you achieve this goal. For example, do you need to go back
to school? overcome your shyness? Change your course of study? Save more? A
goal without a definite plan is merely a wish, it's infact a sure way to
failure!
3
Don't dismiss any
opportunity without carefully considering it, remember the saying 'the best
opportunities come disguised as work'
4
Volunteer. It's
amazing how much experience you can gather from free jobs especially those that
can give you more insight about your dream and plans.
5
Prepare for
opportunities. Any opportunity you are
not prepared for is a loss to you.
6
Get a mentor. Get
closer to at least one person who has traveled the road you want to walk on.
Get connected to sage advices and wisdom that only experience can teach.
7
Lastly never give
up! Don't let situations or even people tell you how your life should be. Take
time to restrategize if need be.
Don't ever settle for less than what you desire. Pray, plan
and work toward achieving it.
