10 items for a perfect work space

 best desk for productivity

At my current job, we receive a budget just for buying stuff to make us happy at work. Some people bought headphones, others plants, and some us just bought objects to create a great working environment.
There are certain things that will increase your productivity, and other things that will reduce your stress level, so working to put them together takes a little time and imagination. From stress balls to plants and flowers, everything in your workspace will affect your mood and productivity. This will be different for each person but perhaps the ideas below will give you some direction to create the perfect working environment.

1. Plants

Adding a small plant to your desk can have a number of positive effects. From cleaning the air to reducing the number of minor ailments you suffer, plants do more than just improve your mood. They can help you think more clearly and help reduce your stress levels, ultimately, making your work environment better.

2. Clocks

A lot of us are probably in the bad habit of pulling out our cell phones to check the time while we are at work. When that happens, we get distracted by text messages, voicemails or Facebook status updates, which can reduce our productivity. In order to fix this, think about adding a fun clock to the wall above your desk.

3. Vase of Flowers

Adding a vase of flowers to your desk, whether you treat yourself to them or they are a gift from someone else, will help improve your mood and stress levels. The scent and sight of them seem to have a therapeutic effect on human beings, meaning that they are a great way to help keep yourself going during a tough day at the office.

4. Stress Balls

They often come from businesses as a means of advertising, but those foam or rubber balls that your co-workers juggle or toss back and forth are really great tools for relieving stress, and keeping your body moving when you are sitting at a desk all day. Stress balls work by relieving tension and increasing blood circulation, so keeping one at your desk for when you come out of a meeting feeling annoyed or angry can be a good idea.

5. Desk Toys

Though you certainly don’t want to goof off while you are at the office, sometimes, it’s important to take a break from a tough task. There are usually other projects that you can work on that take less brainpower and cause less frustration, but if there aren’t, then a small distraction may be in order. Small desk toys, like IQ tests and miniature basketball hoops, can provide a much-needed break from the grind. You’ll be able to return to the task at hand with a new perspective and new ideas.

6. Desk Top Fountains

A fountain provides a soft, monotonous sound that helps to drown out other people in the office. Miniature water fountains can provide an aesthetic appeal by making your workplace look more inviting, and they can also provide just the right amount of noise. It will make the people who are talking three cubicles over less intrusive because you’ll be concentrating on the task at hand.

7. Sticky Notes

What desk would be complete without them? They can be used for organizational purposes, to color code edits and tasks or as an artsy way for notes of encouragement. A pack of sticky notes is a definite plus to any desk.

8. Headphones

Adding a little low-key music to your routine at work can help you increase productivity by drowning out the people working around you. This allows you to focus on the task at hand. Sometimes, an office environment can get very loud with phones ringing and people talking, so if your job allows it, listening to music at your desk is a great way to get your productivity up and your stress levels down.

9. Calendar

While you should have a digital calendar on your computer, it’s always nice to have a word of the day or themed calendar in your workspace. Not only will it help you learn a little each day but will be something to look forward to each time you get into the office.

10. Ergonomic Products

There is a whole list of ergonomic products to help create a healthy and productive workstation. These products allow you to work comfortably and reduce the risk of developing muscular skeletal disorders.
Spend some time thinking about what you need to create the perfect environment for you to work in. It’s different for everyone and you are the best judge of what you need in order to function at your best while you are at work.
