10 Ways We Can Be Kinder to One Another
- Smile. Smile to a stranger. Not a creepy, weird smile, just a pleasant, “how’s it going?’” smile. Suggested places to smile: in an elevator, on your way in/out of a store, at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.
- Merge. Let “that guy” merge in front of you in traffic. Getting home 8 feet later doesn’t matter.
- Hold. Hold the door for someone. Anyone. Let them go in first.
- Respect. Treat everyone with the respect you want them to give you.
- Don’t Be A Hater. Don’t be a hater on social media or anywhere else. Man up. If you have something negative to say, then say it in a tactful way and own your opinions. Don’t write someone off just for disagreeing with you. Listen to and learn the other side.
- Encourage. Encourage someone. Find a way to tell someone they did something good. Even that annoying coworker who constantly complains.
- Give. Give money, or more importantly, time to a cause you care about.
- Deal with it. Don’t be a jerk when things don’t go your way at work or at home. Take a breath and deal with it. Put it in perspective. Gone are your childish ways.
- Buy. Buy coffee/food for the person behind you in the drive through. Anonymously. Don’t expect a thank you. That’s not why you’re doing it.
- Write. Write someone a note. Not an email. A note, on paper, that you have to mail. You’ll be blown away by the impact it will have. Talking to you Millennials.
