2015; NIGERIA’S DEMOCRACY & THE YOUTHS’ ROLE

Image
BY :OLA OLAOYE (PRINCELAOYE) This article was first published Pre General Election and  since today is Democracy day, we need to re post it for the seek of those that didn't see the initial post. Enjoy!!!!!!! The year 2015 will unarguably go down in history as one of the most memorable years to Nigeria as a nation, more so as one in participatory democracy. Only a few will deny the fact that since 1960, we have never had a very keenly contested presidential election which could lead to the 1 st ever incumbent loss and probably eventual transfer of power as it is now. Nigerians now have a date with history, come March 28 th 2015. This was after the country’s National Electoral body; INEC postponed the 2015 general elections of Feb 14 th & 28 th to March 28 th & April 11 th .

AFRICAN BRIDGE TO EDUCATION

Image
By Alex Luketa John. Virginia International University students and alumni are passionate about business, technology, innovation, and bringing change to their communities. One of our most passionate alumni is Alex John Luketa from Tanzania, whose passion is connecting African students with education opportunities in the US at VIU. Having graduated with an MBA in International Business Management, one of Alex’s most important lessons learned during his time at VIU was “you will not win if you don’t try.” This principle was true for Alex throughout his career – first, when he applied to VIU and was accepted, and then when, in an effort to improve his business and communication skills, he applied for an on-campus position.  When Alex applied for a VIU scholarship, he succeeded! “I realized that at VIU everything is possible; it is possible to meet diverse students, experienced professors, and gain global connections,” said Alex of his success.

DISCERNING OPPORTUNITIES

Image
By Kupoluyi Ayomikun                                                           From when we were little we'd been asked, 'What will you like to become when you grow up?'. In Higher Institution we ask ourselves, 'Where do you see yourself in 5,10 years?' Lofty goals, dreams, aspirations, goals, everyone have them, but how many people pursue   these outside school? How many achieve them, or at least few of them? Look around you, you'd probably see many people that are merely surviving; dreams forgotten, no time to plan, to hope, and to dream. So how do you ensure that your life doesn't end up in a dull routine?  You must learn how to RECOGNIZE YOUR OPPORTUNITIES.

GREAT MARKETING MANAGERS

Image
By: Kolade Kehinde Adeleye (Don Akkot) A key thing I have learned in my career and my own work experience: "Bad Marketing Managers tell Marketers what to do, Good Marketing Managers explain why they need to do it, but Great Marketing Managers involve them in decision making and improvement." There might be more to Marketing Management,  but I think that is a pretty good start to "Learn Marketing" or the Total Marketing system, encourage Marketing Leaders to live in that "Good to Great" range (with apologies to Marketing guru).

MASTERY IN CAREER DEVELOPMENT FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Image
By Babatunde Fajimi     Are you a young professional? Do you know that your self-concept evolves over the life cycle of your career development? Your answers to these two questions will determine how well adjusted you are, and fulfilled you will become in your career. We live in a capitalist economy where everyone fends for oneself. The world of work attracts the best and cares about you only when you are productive and profitable to the organization. The best is considered the most confident, effective and result-oriented professional.

STAGE FRIGHT

Image
By : Michael Igele ACT 1 SCENE 1 John, a final year student of University of Benin has been preparing for a seminar presentation. He has wondered how to overcome stage fright. The topic is very familiar to him and he believes he can do well but for stage fright. ACT 1 SCENE 1 Enter John :    Good morning sir! Pharmacist : Good morning young man, how can I help you? John :        Please sir, I am presenting a seminar this afternoon, do you have any drug that can suppress stage fright? Pharmacist : There are no such drugs except hard drugs which I do not sell, but strictly on prescription by the Doctor. You mean you don’t know what to do to overcome stage frights? So you just go to school without anything in your head. All you do is to read all the way but still leave empty space in your brain. When I was in school, I knew what to do. What everybody does including your professors and doctors before going for lectures. John :                     (covered by curiosit

PROTECT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT FROM UNAUTHORISED ACCESS - BVN

Image
By : Kehinde Odofin Mr. John Brown is strongly considering opening a bank account, but the disturbing story of how the banking public has lost huge sums of money to fraud and how a single individual can operate different accounts without being detected has kept him dissuaded. The reason why Mr. John was discouraged was obvious. “How can one get himself in a banking system that does not have trust in itself let alone the trust of the banking public whose identity are being stolen on regular basis?”  This is the question agitating the mind of Mr. John. He is confused and dispirited. But there seems to be hope for him and millions of other Nigerians who are in the same dilemma. The hope lies in a new technology that runs on Biometric data. The Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with all the banks in Nigeria has introduced Bank Verification Number (BVN) as a unique identification number for bank customers. The BVN gives each bank customer a unique identity across the

4 Reasons Why Your Hard Work is not getting you anywhere

Image
By:  Adeolu S. Kolawole  Imagine you have a race to run. The track stretches out before you. You do a little jogging to warm up. You are ready. You go down on one knee…on your marks…get set…go! You run, you run really hard. Half an hour later, you realize that the finish line still seems far off. So you run a little harder. An hour later, you realize that the finish line must be playing tricks on you. It does not seem to be getting closer. You look down and notice to your annoyance that you are only one step away from the starting line despite the fact that you’re giving the race your entire energy.

These are adoption of positive attitude, researching which is achievable through deep and wide reading in your chosen field, being prepared for potential opportunity, and finally the concept of being focused. The power of focus will be considered solely in this editorial. It is very essential and cannot be over-emphasized in one’s journey of success. In order to better inculcate this attribute, the following will be needed:

Be at the top!

Image
By Odofin Peter.                                   Its very obvious that everybody is desirous of the top. Irrespective of your station in life, there is always a room at the top.In your academic pursuit, your chosen career, your endeavour, your family and every aspect of your life, you will agree with me that your ultimate aim is the very top. You therefore need to be on top of every challenge that comes enroute the top. Unfortunately, many people do not understand the nitty-gritty of getting to the top while others are yet to understand that there are always prices to pay before you can be at the peak of your career.
